Our volunteer Befrienders are at the heart of what we do, and we couldn’t do it without them! We’re always looking for compassionate, committed volunteers to help make a difference to the older people we support - could that be you?
How do Befrienders make a difference?
Evergreen volunteers provide support to a person helping them feel less lonely and isolated. Friendships nurture positive feelings, self-worth and hope.
What will I be doing as a Befriender?
Befrienders visit their Befriendee on a regular basis in their home.
Volunteer’s key roles are to:
Visit weekly on a mutually agreed day and time, for one to two hours
Develop a mutually beneficial friendship
Share enjoyable activities such as chatting over a cuppa, looking through photo albums, books etc., playing card, puzzle or board games
Some friendships result in short trips out
Is this role for me?
This role may be suitable if you:
Support Christian values of love, compassion, tolerance, equality and hope (Volunteers of all faiths and none are welcome)
Would like to support lonely elderly people to improve their quality of life
Are able to attend training and induction as required to help you in your role
Have good communication and listening skills
Are able to keep accurate written records
Are able to volunteer by yourself in the community, yet understand you are part of a team
Agree to undergo DBS and reference checks
It is important to note that Evergreen volunteers will not and do not provide personal or domestic care.
