Welcome to
Evergreen Sleaford
A befriending scheme for the elderly
Evergreen Sleaford, aims to respond to the high demand for community-based opportunities for social contact amongst older people by providing a simple friendship. Each friendship is a commitment between one volunteer befriender and the service user. This is a free and confidential service, supporting senior citizens in making the most of their life experience into old age.
We believe that simple, committed friendships may reduce and prevent the isolation experienced by those who may not have family close by or friends and neighbours for mutual support, particularly through failing health and/or bereavement.
It is hoped that as a friendship develops it will prove mutually enriching and worthwhile.
Each volunteer befriender commits to an hour or two each week. The time might be spent chatting over a cuppa, a shared activity in the home, a little trip out etc. Each friendship is unique. However, it is not intended to be a domestic, sitting, shopping or taxi service.
We operate our scheme throughout Sleaford and a surrounding 10 mile radius. Unfortunately, we are not authorised to meet the demand beyond that area.
Here’s what people say about us:
“Evergreen Sleaford gives me confidence that someone is looking out for dad where I can’t living so far away. He still has some independence this way and thoroughly enjoys tea and scrabble.”
“Evergreen Sleaford has a wish to meet a need that often goes un-thought about.”
“Evergreen Sleaford bring a breath of fresh air into the lives of the elderly, lonely people. A friendly face and a chat are all you need sometimes when you’re on your own. I look forward to their visits.”
”Evergreen Sleaford makes a difference to the lonely lives of the elderly.”
“Evergreen Sleaford is a caring charity that provides a committed friendship to those who may feel isolated from the community.”
”As befrienders, our friendship is mutually beneficial because we learn so much about their earlier lives, giving us a better understanding of their needs.”
